So a lot has happened since my last blog! So much that I just don't know where to start so I'll just do my best to rewind to a few weeks ago and proceed chronologically!
Let's start with Thanksgiving Eve, one of us 20something's favorite holidays! There was much lead up to this night as we had started planning it weeks ago. Three of my best friends had committed to the outting and had been getting hyped so I knew with all of us together this night could be nothing other than epic. Karen, the best mom in the entire world, was nice enough to play DD for us and dropped Janet, Kristin, Natalie, and I off at my friend Yianni's house to start off the night. Yianni lives in Pentagon city which is about a 15 minute drive from DC. At Yianni's we played a drinking game to Beauty & the Beast (I still know all the words to the song "Be Our Guest"), played some beer pong, took a few shots, and attempted to play pool. Sometime between 10 and 11, Yianni's roommate Dan called the towncar to pick us up. We all piled into the towncar. Natalie had a little mishap when she got her heel caught in the AC vent of the car, but Kristin came to the rescue and pulled her foot outta there. We made it to the first bar which was having 3 dollar vodka's all night... score! We may have had a few too many of those.
This was all of us right before we left the first bar. Great photo for our family christmas card haha. Anyways, right after we took this picture something dropped from Natalie's shoe. She picked up this black piece of plastic and goes "Kristi! What is this??" I took one look at it and said "OMG Nat! That's the AC vent from the towncar!" Kristin's muscles were so strong that when she yanked Natty's foot out of the AC vent she took the vent out with it. The funniest part about this is we had been at the first bar for about 2 hours and dancing up a storm, and none of us noticed the vent up Nat's heel. Here is a picture for your entertainment (sorry Nat, love ya!)
We then proceeded to the next bar, lost Yianni, drank too many cranberry vodkas, got random shots from some old creepers, found Yianni, and then hopped back into the same towncar that dropped us off, only this time the towncar was missing an AC vent. Karen was a trooper and came to pick us up from Yianni's at about 2:30am. We were all pretty exhausted, but managed to eat two big bowls of spinach and artichoke dip before we went to bed. This was definitely a Thanksgiving Eve I will always remember.
Needless to say on actual Thanksgiving Day I was pretty exhausted, but I had a lot to be thankful for. As I reflected on the events of last year's Thanksgiving, I realized a lot had changed. I realized that a year ago, I had spent Thanksgiving either crying or moping around the house refusing to go anywhere. It had been a year since last Thanksgiving my cousin asked me "If I still had the same boyfriend I'd been with for awhile." Last year I told her no I wasn't, and when she asked me how I was doing I told her fine. That was a complete lie and my mother butted in saying something along the lines of "No, she's not fine, she doesn't want to do anything or go anywhere and is way too sad." So, last Thanksgiving was a bit of an emotional one as my cousin Amanda gave me a pep talk while I cried over some wine. This Thanksgiving was completely the opposite. This year instead, I am the most single I could possibly be with no boy attachments whatsoever. And despite the heartbreak I went through over a year ago, I think I may be the happiest I've ever been. I have a fabulous support system-- my mom, dad, brother, and sweet little puppy Bentley are the best family a girl could ask for. I have awesome friends whether new or old, near or far, that I know I can count on and I love very much. School sucks, but I'm thankful for that as well. It's something that I'm excited and passionate about, but challenges me every day. In other words, this Thanksgiving is one that I will remember for many reasons, but most importantly I want you all to know that I was thankful for YOU on Thanksgiving day and I love you all very much.
So enough of the sappiness. This week was very busy, but what week isn't? I had three exams and my last standardized patient of the semester--wahoo! Other than that the week was pretty uneventful minus the fact that I got a parking ticket on Monday for being 4 minutes over my meter time. I also had to go to the auto parts store to replace my gas cap for the 2nd time in 8 days. Either someone is stealing my gas cap or I've lost all common sense and keep forgetting to screw it back on after I get gas... both are feasible. Tonight one of my classmates is having a highlighter party so that should have some entertaining stories and my parents and I are going to the GSU vs. William Mary game tomorrow. Go Eagles! That's it for now, but thought I'd leave you with a quote from the book I'm reading right now.
"So have we solved the secret to happiness?"
I believe so he said.
"So are you going to tell me"
Yes, ready?
"Ready."
Be satisified. Be grateful for what you have, for the love you receive and for what God has given you."
- Mitch Albom, Have a Little Faith
I'm grateful for each and everyone of you.
Love,
Kristi
